Job Title: Special Education School Teacher Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Reports to: Campus Principal Pay Grade: PG7 or PG8 Dept./School: John F. Kennedy High School Date Revised: 3/2020 Terms of Employment: 10 months/187 days per year. Salary is on the Teacher Salary Schedule on the EISD Compensation Plan on a term or probationary contract, as applicable. Starting teacher salary is $53,000.00 with Bachelor´s degree; and additional stipend of $1,523.00 for Master´s degree, with additional consideration for directly related experience. Primary Purpose : Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned Valid certification in the following: Special Education (EC-12) and Core Subjects Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of core academic subject(s) assigned Knowledge of integration of technology Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior Strong organizational, communication, writing and interpersonal skills Ability to adjust and be flexible to a multitude of situations in the school environment Experience: At least one year student teaching or approved internship Major Responsibilities and Duties: Instructional Strategies Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Student Growth and Development Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing. Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district. Classroom Management and Organization Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Communication Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Supervisory Responsibilities : Supervise students and monitor work flow of instructional assistants, if applicable Working Conditions: Mental Demands Tools/Equipment Used : Personal computer and peripherals;standard instructional equipment; [P.E. teachers: automated external defibrillator (AED)] Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. Posture: Prolonged standing/walking; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Frequent walking, Sensory ability needs - significant; hearing, near vision, peripheral vision color discrimination, depth perception Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipment Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise, frequent cold and heat Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
